Buy Local
Buying local is an easy way to give back to your community. By buying local you support local farmers and businesses. They in turn hire employees and help the community grow. Buying local keeps any sales tax in your local community. Also by buying local you greatly reduce the amount of hydro-carbon based fuel needed to transport that product to your table. Make a connection with your local farmers and businesses and then tell me about it.
Artisan Foods Delivered: just as the name implies…the best locally produced dairy, meats, cheeses, and condiments delivered to your door. I adore these people!
Blue Marble Dairy: Their products are divine…low-heat pasturization and no homogenization makes for dairy products that just blow my mind…and I didn’t use to do dairy because it was so tateless. Their milks are tasty and their cream is perfect for making sweet butter…get some, now!
Cates Family Farm: organic, grass-fed beef, humanely raised here in Spring Green, Wisconsin.
Dreamfarm: Organic eggs and goat cheese from the Blue Mound area of Wisconsin.
Gail Ambrosius Chocolates: extraordinary, artisan chocolate from Madison, Wisconsin.
Grass Point Farms:Grass fed dairy products
Jordandal Farm: a small, family-owned operation dedicated to sustainable agriculture, nutrient density and quality over quantity. They produce fine beef, lamb, pork, chicken, eggs, and various other food items. We love their beef…it’s flavor is the best.
Just Coffee: Fair trade coffee – not just a market but a movement. These guys are great and the coffee is the bomb. Try the Revolution Roast or The Reanimator (aka the undead).
Madison Sourdough Company: European-style baguettes and batards. This is the real stuff and no one else is doing this in Madison. When I eat Cameron Ramsay’s bread I’m reminded of Steve Sullivan and Acme Bakery in the SF Bay Area.
Penzeys Spice Company: This Wisconsin company supplies the finest spices from all over the world. Their unique blends are used daily in my kitchen.
RP’s Pasta: Fresh local pasta from Madison.
Uplands Cheese Company: These guys make Pleasant Ridge Reserve, the best cheese in the world.
Vermont Valley CSA: Community supported agriculture at its best. Vermont Valley has the best produce in Wisconsin. Barb and Dave Perkins have a beautiful and productive organic farm in the Blue Mound area.
Willow Creek Farm: Tony and Sue Renger raise exceptional Berkshire Pork in a way that compels us to refer to their pork chops as “Happy Pig”. Read what one of my favorite food writers, Jonathon Gold, has to say about them.
JenEhr Family Farm: JenEhr Family Farm pastured American Bronze Heritage Turkeys are now available for order. They are pasture raised in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. JenEhr Family Farm also provides produce to the community through its CSA.
