The traveling geeks return

We had some fabulous crepes for breakfast on our last day. It was in a little crepe shop right by the South Kensington tube station and they were superb. Our last night in London was perfect. We wandered through the Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square, and Covent Garden neighborhoods after a delicious and filling dinner on Gerrard Street in Chinatown. GH ordered the crispy belly pork, I had Peking duck, Alex had dry-cooked pork chop with ginger and spicy peppers, Dex had BBQ pork. It was all delicious and so different from Chinese food in the States. As I sat at our table gazing out onto Gerrard Street this woman’s bright coat and sharp cap caught my eye. As we walked about after dinner we realized that we no longer needed our map and we weren’t lost. It was a good feeling.

The next morning we were up and about early (for us) and by 10:00 I was sitting on a bench in front of the Gloucester Road tube station waiting for the boys to get their Starbucks. There is a lovely flower shop there in the station’s arcade and the sun was streaming in on the flowers providing a free show that was absolutely gorgeous.

After a 7.5 hour flight we arrived back in Chicago, retrieved our car and our loving and much missed dog from Grandma Lolly and headed home. All was going well and the whole family had heaved a sigh of relief when suddenly Dexter was taken violently ill with some stomach issue. It wasn’t pretty but we managed to get the mess mopped up as best we could and completed the drive home with the windows down. The gallant GH took responsibility for cleaning the van out once we were home and I began the laundry.

Yesterday I went shopping for food and I will admit that I bought a lot of fruit and veg that wasn’t local. This plate of food is an apt example of exactly what I was craving and boy did it taste good. Alex wanted chili so I managed to cook up a pot of that too. Dexter seems back on his feet finally this afternoon and so we are getting back into the swing of things.

It was a fabulous trip, I loved it all. I’ll post the rest of my photos to flickr once I get the chance. Its good to be home.

Oh dear- poor Dexter! I suppose worse things could have happened though. I’m glad to see you made it back safely.
