Geek’s treats: Frozen Chocolate Bananas

yummy

There are two things I love about Monday. The first is watching the new Battlestar Galactica that airs on Sunday night. The second is the geeky treat that we eat when we watch…Frozen Chocolate Bananas. I’d never had one until a few weeks ago. They are delicious and so easy to make.

Geeky Banana Treats
6 perfect Bananas
6 sticks (I use chopsticks)
1/4 pound bittersweet chocolate
1/2 pound milk chocolate

Peel the bananas and break them in half. Stick the chopstick in them and place them on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper. Freeze them for several hours.

Chop the chocolate into chunks. Melt this in a double boiler over medium heat. I make my own double boiler by placing a smaller pan inside a larger pan that has water in it. Stir the chocolate as it melts.

Once the chocolate is totally melted hold a frozen banana over the pan and use a spoon to drape the chocolate over the surface of the banana turning it to entirely cover it. Place it back on the lined cookie sheet. Once all the bananas are covered return them to the freezer. Let them remain in the freezer for at least an hour before you eat them. Bag them in a ziploc and they keep fresh in your freezer for a week (maybe longer…I wouldn’t know). Sometimes I have leftover chocolate and I also coat nuts and frozen raspberries.

I always have frozen bananas, they’re like a popsicle, but better. Yours however, have been taken to a whole new level with chocolate!

At first I didn’t read that you used chopsticks and thought you were using pencils(!)…it all makes sense now.

If you’re motivated enough, caramel coated bananas also hit the spot.

Me and chocolate covered bananas go way back. I used to drive an ice cream truck and we sold these. I used to force myself to eat them after too many days in a row of hot fudge sundaes and milkshake concoctions. Yup, no frozen novelties on that truck, we had soft serve.

Brilynn, if you squint while you eat them you theybecome a totally healthy treat.

    Jef, carmel sounds delicious.

Lee, man I wish we had an ice cream truck like that.
